Something

*I hate you then I love you” sung by Celine Dion and Luciano Pavarotti

He slammed his fist into the wall. Pulling it away he examined the damage. Nothing, Christ, he couldn’t even put a dint in the plaster. With a sigh of frustration he ran a hand through his short hair.

A loud ringing suddenly broke the silence. He stared at the table and the mobile phone on it. He strode to the table and turned the phone off.

He didn’t want to talk to anyone today. Damn it, he didn’t want to go anywhere. He just wanted to stay here.

Looking around the darkening room he realised he could feel the quiet stillness of the day starting to seep into his skin. He was going crazy and he couldn’t understand why. What had gone wrong? How had it happened? The questions tumbled through his mind swirling within the jumble of ideas, visions, stories and pictures that usually filled his head. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhh” he growled loudly. The silence was deafening.

Reaching out he stabbed at the radio. Useless chatter filled the air .

He made his way to the fridge and pulled a beer from the depths. Pulling the tab he gulped down half of its contents. Walking back to the radio he twisted the dial until he hit a channel with music.

A song he didn’t recognise hit his ears. Wandering over to the window he felt his anger slowly ebb. The words of the song, sung in duet, penetrated his troubled thoughts. Halting his pacing movements, he turned to stare at the radio.

I’d like to run away from you,

He stared at the radio for a long moment and then reached out to turn it off.

Swallowing the remainder of his beer, he paced back over to the window. Dropping the empty can to the sill, he stared out at the murky sky and then started to chuckle.

The irony of the song startled a sudden laugh from him and he grabbed his phone from the table. He started to dial a number and then stopped.

Dropping the phone back to the table he growled in frustration and ran his fingers through his hair once more.

He glanced at the clock on the video recorder out of the corner of his eye. Shit, now he was going to be late.

Snatching his jacket from a nearby chair, he grabbed his wallet, his phone and his keys and left the room as suddenly as he had entered it.

But if I were to leave you,

I would die,

I’d like to break these chains you put around me,

And yet I’ll never try,

No matter what you do,

You drive me crazy,

I’d rather be alone,

But then I know my life would be so empty,

As soon as you were gone,

Impossible to live with you,

But I could never live without you,

For whatever you do,

For whatever you do

I never never never want to be with anyone but you.

You make me sad, you make me strong,

you make me mad you make me long, for you.

You make me live, you make me die,

You make me laugh, you make me cry, for you.

I hate you then I love you,

Then I love you then I hate you,

Then I love you more.

For whatever you do,

I never never never want to be in love with anyone but you.

You treat me wrong, you treat me right,

You let me be, you make me fight with you.”

I could never live without you.”

You make me high, you bring me down,

You set me free, you hold me bound to you.

I hate you then I love you,

Then I love you then I hate you,

Then I love you more,

For whatever you do,

For whatever you do,

I never never never want to be in love with anyone but you

I never never never want to be in love with anyone but you.

I never never never want to be in love with anyone but you.

I never never never,

I never never never,

I never never never want to be in love with anyone but you,

But you.”*

  1. Love that song…and the story you are building here..its very engaging. 🙂

    • Thanks very much. I feel this story is more about uncontrollable emotions than it is character development

      • Its working very well – is Forever connected or is that a separate story or fragment? i wasn’t sure once I’d read them all, thought it could be either way. 🙂
