The Story – Chapter 150

October 19, 2015

We were surrounded by trees, lots and lots of trees. I was sure we were going the right way… pretty sure… mostly. It was night… I think. Okay you know what? I have no idea where we are and there are so many trees I had no idea if it was night or day. And my colleague was annoying the crap out of me.

“Are you sure you’re going the right way?” Charlie asked.

“Yup.” I said as joyfully as I could without making eye contact.

I didn’t think he’d caught on yet. He waited three steps before he asked again. Exactly the same time frame he’d used every three steps after talking for the past four hours.

At last, and because my feet and legs were killing me, I stopped.

He actually took another three steps before he looked back at me.

“We’re lost aren’t we?”

“Yup.” I told him. He looked sad and hung his head. And for a moment all was silent around us.

And that’s when I heard it.
