Can’t run (Friday Fictioneers)

Oh yeah, finally I got you. Miserable little bugger. This thing had been driving me nuts for days, appearing at day break outside my window. Chirping chirping chirping over and over, every morning and—

What the hell?

What is that…

Is that a… a… camera?

Holding the critter tighter I examined the feathers. Huh? Plastic. It gave off no smell and had fallen quiet and immobile in my hand. A computer. A very advanced computer. What the hell. I stared into its eyes as a chill made its way down my spine.

Crap. They’d found me.

Time to go. Again.

  1. Time to get out of there. Some sort of camera was my first thought when I saw the prompt too, but I didn’t use it in the end – it definitely does look like it’s watching… 🙂

  2. That’s an inventive take on the prompt

  3. Dear Laurie,

A drone made to look and act like a bird? Ingenious. Clever story. Hm. I’m going to be watching those birds from now on. 😉

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  4. Oho! Caught by a phony mynah! Great take on the prompt 🙂

  5. Dale permalink

Now that’s a horrid thought! And probably very doable in this day and age. She/he better hightail it outta there…

  6. You’ve given us an interesting take on the prompt by turning around the sympathy most of us felt for the poor, helpless birdie. Nice one!

  7. That was quite ingenious. Good one.

  8. Life Lessons of a Dog Lover permalink

I agree this was a very creative take on the prompt.

  9. A birdy camera? Time to fly methinks!

Great change of tone as the deception is revealed. An intriguing tale too, as we don’t know what s/he is running from. It’s given me a new earworm – Keep on Running

  11. Basic design flaw, to make your spy cam annoying. Back to the drawing board.

  12. Well, dang! Hopefully, he has everything packed and ready to go.

  13. Too bad… and they will know that he knows too… so he’d better run

  14. I did not expect that one! Nice.
