“A’right… it ain’t much to look at, but it’s me home and ya can jist keep ya opinions to yaself!”

“Come on Gramps.”

“I jist sayin!”

“All right, all right. Grab your trolley. Let’s keep moving.”

Joel eyed his patch next to the yellow rose. With a sigh he turned back to the old gnome. It was impossible to keep an eye on him all the way down here. “You can’t let the humans see you moving.”

“Ah, theys don’t see nuthin.”

A shadow moved. “Shhhhh,” Joel snapped, freezing in place.

“The garden gnome twitched, love.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, dear.”

    ” I jist sayin’…..” hah😂😂😂

  8. Terrific dialogue. Well done.

  9. Good voice for Gramps. And I like the way the wife saw the gnome twitch. I suspect she’ll be watching really closely in future…

  10. What a fun take on this prompt 🙂

  11. Dear Laurie,

I love stories where supposedly inanimate objects are truly alive unbeknownst to humans. You’ve told the story well in few words.

  12. This was fun,.. Who knows what they do when we are not looking… Might explain a few things!

  13. A garden gnome that could move would truly be scary I think

  14. Nice younger/older man dynamic, especially the embarrassment of the younger gnome, about his grampa’s propensity for twitchin’. 😊

  15. Sarah Ann permalink

🙂 Surely granddad should be wiser than Joel, or maybe he’s bee lucky all these years. A great, fun story and I’ll be looking at the gnomes more closely from now on.

  16. Very fun read. Brilliant dialogue.
