No place like home (Friday Fictioneers)
PHOTO PROMPT © Nathan Sowers grandson of our own Dawn M. Miller
Grandma left me the mirror. Every time she spoke about it, her eyes lit up and her mouth quirked in a grin wholly unbecoming for a lady in her eighties. No one paid her much mind. Dementia they’d say, sighing sadly.
I told her I believed her.
Well, she was my grandma and I loved her.
After the mirror vibrated and flashed yellow I realized she’d told the truth.
From the other side, I stared back at my bedroom then glanced up. Red sky, murky mustard sun. Three grey lines from horizon to horizon. Not in Aus anymore.
I grinned.

A lovely fairy tale, Laurie. I hope the red sky and murky sun don’t mean she’s made a mistake
Thank you Neil! I think she might learm the nature of granny’s grin
Nice story of relationship between grandmother and grand daughter.
Thank you. 😊
Nice way to travel, I liked the descriptive language.
Wouldn’t it be nice, just to miss out on those queues at the airports.
Oh yes portal through mirrors would be so much easier… but safer? Hmmm
Adventure awaits!
Oh yes… she has to learn why granny smiled that way 😉
Good job, Laurie.
Thank you John 😊
Wish my grandmother had a mirror like that. Nice story
Me too!
And then…? Grandma was obviously pleased to pass this secret along.
She certainly was Tracey. I imagine this young woman will possibly meet Adventure just as granny did
Dear Laurie,
Is her grandmother perhaps named Alice? Imaginative story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Haha indeed… exceedingly curious
I LOVE an inappropriate grin on the face of an 80-year-old-young grandmother 🙂
Oh me too!! 😃
A new beginning thanks to Gran! Delightful.

Thank you Keith!
She didn’t doubt her grandmother and now she has an adventure ahead of her. Lovely story.
Bring on the adventuring 😊 thanks Jilly
🙂
Love this, Laurie!
Thank you Dale!
Ah, the tales old and seemingly demented people tell very often contain truth–why do we never listen? I love this, grin and all. And now I’d like to know more, especially about the cause for that grin. 🙂
Oh.. sounds like there will be some fun with that mirror…
I hope she knows how to get back, if she wants to go there that is. Loved the line, ‘her mouth quirked in a grin wholly unbecoming for a lady in her eighties.’
I loved the relationship in this piece.
Thank you!
