Welcome all ye strangers (Friday Fictioneers)

January 17, 2019

PHOTO PROMPT © Dale Rogerson

A day after they landed everything appeared normal. There was still that strange purple glow in the sky, and that smell of rain in the air though no clouds could be seen strangeness, but on the whole, yeah, same old same old.

My door had borne the brunt of the first “welcome meeting.”

Yeah right. I taped up the crack and prayed it wouldn’t shatter overnight. It held so far.

Jonno and Brian, my neighbours, were “welcomed” too.

They didn’t fare so well.

Neither did the dog.

Still, as I re-bandage my arm I think it could have been worse.

  1. I hate to think what happens after the ‘welcome meeting’…

  2. I’m guessing ingestion is the stage after welcome

  3. Not so welcoming maybe. Intriguing story, Laurie.

  4. My goodness, it seems like an invitation to dinner means you’re on the menu. I looks like the uninvited guests may not be deterred by some tape, after they get hungry again.

Very intriguing! Good stuff. I’d love to know the in’s and out’s of this little story. Isn’t it frustrating to write just 100 words?!

  6. Yikes! Loved this imaginative take on the photo prompt.

Nooo, not the dog… Here we are, won’t you welcome us? Stomp… stomp… Doesn’t bode well for the future. I love it.

  8. They arrive but they do the welcoming? Aren’t they forward!!
Methinks we don’t want them around…

  9. (though no clouds could be seen strangeness ~ confused by this, sorry!)

We just watched District 9. Have you seen it? Your story reminds of the creepiness in that film ~ in a good way.

  10. Welcoming strangers can result in a difficult situation. One should be extra careful.

  11. Someone did actually knock on my door once and cracked the glass. Fortunately, my dog survived!

  12. Are they malicious or just very clumsy? Either way I wouldn’t want them welcoming me

  13. Uh oh..I don’t like the sound of it.. Nice write!

  14. Dear Laurie,

I shudder to think what they did with the dog. Purple glow in the sky…not all bad. 😉 Intriguing story.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  15. This “welcoming” doesn’t sound very welcoming! Poor dog!

  16. Jonno and Brian AND the dog! Love this story. Very funny.
