Why won’t you just listen to me? (Friday Fictioneers)

May 9, 2019

Just dirt.

Dust and soil and scraggly, barely there bushes and grass. Everything dry and dead or dying.

Three days since the crash.

Three days of heat and desert and sand.

Three days of unquenchable thirst.

Three days of dying without knowing you are already dead.

“How are you doing, love?”

“Oh, I’m fine, George. I’m dandy. Just walking here beside you, regretting ever meeting and marrying you. You should have let me ask for directions, George.”

“Looks like water up there, Marion.” George points with a bleeding finger. “See I told you we’d survive this.”

“It’s a mirage, George.”

  5. Funny. My man would stop and ask 20 times if need be. ‘Course, he was a rare bird.

    • He was a marvel. There are not many gems like that. Well yes! You nailed it Dale. She could have asked. Thanks for reading

  6. Men would quite literally choose death over asking for directions. Go figure.

    Well written piece, realistic.

  7. Looks like Marion should have tested George before she married him. Too late now.

  8. Dear Laurie,

My husband does ask for directions…but it does take him a while to get to this point. This one made me laugh. Well done.

  9. Many men do hate to ask for directions but thank goodness it doesn’t always turn out like that. A good story with dark humor, Laurie. 🙂 — Suzanne

  10. Ha… I don’t mind asking for directions… it would be my wife objecting to that.
I do remember being lost in the Sonora desert once… but we never crashed and got out of the desert safe and sound

    • So very glad you both got out safe Bjorn! Love that you are the direction asker in your family 😊
