It’s begun (Friday Fictioneers)

July 4, 2019
PHOTO PROMPT © J Hardy Carroll

These planetary dates are rather confusing. A celebration of some sort. Who really understands it?

Breaking away from ruling overlords, breaking free, breaking apart?

Doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. A planet is a planet, a people is a people. All the same… Bipedal, one head, one heart, one brain. They pull out old flags. Flags for crying out loud!

Where is the Earth flag?

They won’t need one. The invasion has begun, and they haven’t even realised it. Our flag will take pride of place. This land is abundant…

Well, it will be.

Once it is cleared.

  1. What I like about this is the challenge from the aliens on the arrogant assumption of the human race that they are the one and only. So where are the other intelligent life forms?

  2. Interesting view which I admit, to a great extent, I share.
    Good story

  3. Great reflection on flags, Laurie. What the conquerors don’t realise is they’re already in the process of being absorbed. They’re already contemplating a flag.

  4. All the same – if they can see that, why can’t we?

  5. Humans are a tenacious parasite. It might not be so easy to “clear” us.

  6. Chilling, to say the least. Especially the idea of being “cleared.”

  7. Dear Laurie,

Ominous story. Who will save us poor humans now?

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  8. I enjoyed it so much I read it three times!

My take on the photo: https://dbmcnicol.com/friday-fictioneers-declaration/

  9. Even they have a flag to plant when they conquer! It seems to be the most important thing. A spooky tale that one day could be true. How do we know we’re the only ones? =)

  10. I was thinking like Neil… they mock the humans for their usage of flags and plan on planting one themselves!
Well done, Laurie. Hopefully I’ll be long gone before they get here.

    • Yesssss that’s exactly right. Or at least as I was thinking. I sure hope there is a heroine in the wings to kick alien butt!

  11. A good story well written, Laurie. I remember the old movie “Mars Attacks” where the grandmother’s country music causes the alien’s heads to explode You never know. 😀 — Suzanne

  12. gahlearner permalink

This is great. And the Aliens… repeat history.

  13. Too many flags to reist the power of one that’s mightier than us… we will lose to the multipeds with lizard eyes.

  14. Good story. Brings to mind the question: “If you need a flag to define you????” Sorry, in one of those “question everything” moods today.
