Don’t stop (Friday Fictioneers)

Follow the line, follow the leader, keep moving, don’t stop…

To stop moving, to stop changing, to stop evolving is to die.

Nothing stays as it was. You must adapt. It is inevitable.

We all wear external breathers now, water filtration units. Our bodies have become something different, something new. We function on genetically modified pastes and lower gravity. Our bodies longer, thinner, skulls elongated.

New planets are the goal now that we have destroyed our own.

Yet the planetary conditions we now need to survive on are unlike what we once needed.

For we are not what we were.

This is a Friday Fictioneers prompt

  1. Here’s hoping we do better on the new planets than we did on the old one

  2. An ominous evolution ahead, glad I won’t be around for it!

  3. Evolution to the extreme – but this is where we are heading, I’ll be wary of tall thin people from now on.

All the adapting and evolving won’t help us as long as our brain doesn’t evolve with it. A sad, thought-provoking projection.

  5. Clever, thought provoking story! I think humans are changing – not necessarily physically – but we’re definitely losing empathy with each other if the trolling that goes on on the internet is anything to go by.

  6. Good one, Laurie.

  7. I actually wouldn’t mind if my body were longer and thinner. . . .

  8. Dear Lori,

I’d love to be able to breathe underwater. Bring on the longer body and add gills, please. Imaginative piece.

  9. Ohh, that’s a very bleak future. Great take on the prompt, Laurie.

  10. We’re DOOMED! Oh No! This would put an end to speculation for the future. Scary and sad. Nice story!

  11. They will probably screw up the next one, too…

Yes moving is life. Stopping is death.

  13. I do think we would change… but we have not adopted to this world have we?

    • I agree Bjorn, but I think we are different as time goes by, experience changes us, shorter, fatter, less empathy, life pain causes hurts we can’t heal. Ah, to be young again.

  14. Evolution on steroids, a frightening unpalatable thought. To what extremes will we as a species be willing to go to continue living…

  15. A good sci-fi story. The description was great. I wouldn’t want to see that day, Laurie. The part about going to another planet because we’ve destroyed our own, reminds me of the movie “Avatar” and we know what happened to them. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne
