Vengeance (Friday Fictioneers)

October 24, 2019
PHOTO PROMPT © Jean L. Hays

The disguise would take time to finalize. I left the Steamstress to it. I had faith she would finish in time for the dinner. Besides, I had other things to prepare.

My weapons cabinet greeted me with the sigh of a lover as I popped the seal. The glint off my favorite knife drew my gaze. I caressed the handle designed exactly to my grip and slid it free from its case.

Tonight, I would end the hunter’s life and my long path to redemption would be realized. I grinned the grin of the damned.

Death would set me free.

  1. Full of mystery and hazard, Laurie

  2. Something very chilling about to happen here! Nice take on the photo prompt.

  3. You reveal a serious knife fetish here!

    • lol hahaha oh dear, well certainly the character does. I’m more likely to accidentally cut myself

  4. Dear Laurie,

Sounds rather sinister. A different take on the prompt.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Indeed, sorry about that, I was feeling in the mood for a dark revenge tale and the pins made me think of disguises and it took off from there

  5. Wow, watch out however it is that’s fired him up.

    Here’s my story!

  6. Put me in mind of Snow White, but on a much more sinister basis. Seems the main character is fully aware that things won’t end well.

  7. Mysterious hunter. I would end the hunter’s life could also be read as referring to the narrator’s own if he is currently living the life of a hunter.

I feel like I’ve turned on a movie mid-scene. Definitely makes me want to keep watching.

  8. I like the sound of this character Laurie, would love to read more!

  9. Revenge is best served cold I think… but it sounds like she has been living for the hunt… afterwards death may be welcome

    • Aha! Well picked Bjorn! Indeed it may be her own death that’s coming but she’ll take him out first

  10. Redemption? Whatever is being planned sounds like murder, I hope the disguise works.

  11. I also had Snow White come to mind! Now, that said, we are left to wonder what her victim-to-be has done to deserve this. And if her potential death is the true freedom she seeks.
    Good one!

  12. I love this line: “My weapons cabinet greeted me with the sigh of a lover as I popped the seal.” I hope once she takes care of the hunter she survives. She sounds like a person of fortitude and dedication. Pity to lose all of those skills to the ether.

  13. My weapons cabinet is pretty much full of burnt sausages, but I like the grin of the damned, good stuff!

  14. Abhijit Ray permalink

From hunter to the hunted. He would need a much better disguise to avoid pursuers.
