Review: Daddy’s Little Hero: Dan wants to be a Fireman by Chrys McDuffie, Illustrated by Amber Fitz-Herbert

October 10, 2020

About the Book:

Dan is a brave little boy who wants to grow up to be a fireman, just like his Daddy.

Dan tries to help out with the Australian bush fire crisis by sneaking into his Daddy’s fire truck. But Daddy discovers him and stops him as it is too dangerous. Instead Dan volunteers to help injured animals at an animal shelter.

Join Dan and his dad through this inspiring rhyming journey and experience the wonder of the Australian spirit in action.

My thoughts:

What a gorgeous picture book. The illustrations are fabulous and the story is beautiful. Aimed for children 2yrs – 5yrs and based on a poem written after the terrible bushfires that wreaked such havoc in Australia during the 2019/2020 Summer season.

Little Dan loves his dad and wants to help. But helping a firefighter is filled with danger. Little Dan sneaks into the car and is driven to an out of control bushfire. Luckily Dad finds him in time. But Dan still wants to help.

This is a heartfelt story with terrific illustrations and really shows the fury and might of an Aussie bushfire. Our firefighters are heroes. This is a great Aussie story to read to the little ones. I guarantee all the little ones will want to help after reading this story.
