A little dream of you and me (Friday Fictioneers)

It’s a day like any other. Sun poking through the heavy cloud cover, spearing weak light into the sea. I bob with the waves, my tail flashing a hint of gold and red. The little splash is peaceful.

I wonder where he is.

The man I’d saved.

His boat had been sinking. I’d pulled him free of the rigging and got him safely to land. The look in his wide eyes stayed with me. My skin heats thinking of it. His voice, croaky with saltwater but oh so sweet as he thanked me.

What would have happened if I’d stayed?

  1. Love it! 🧜‍♀️

  2. Beautifully written, Laurie. A perfect little moment

  3. What a hero. Lovely story.

  4. A mermaid story, love it! Only yesterday I was listening to someone the radio talking about how mermaids spend all their time cleaning up the sea; hoovering up plastic rather than rescuing sailors

  5. Ariel would have some thoughts about where that might have led, but whether that would be better or worse depends if you’re going with Disney or Hans Anderson

  6. Dear Laurie,

It’s probably a good thing the heroic mermaid didn’t stay. 😉 Men can be so much trouble. Sweet story from her POV.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  7. What a delightful tail (pardon the pun!)

    My contribution!

  8. What a heroic tale… I really enjoyed reading this one. 🙂 ❤ Does the heart a little good, too.

  9. Oh, I think she was better off back at sea. Relationships between humans and mermaids rarely end well. But, there’s always a first time… Lovely story.

  10. Your story takes daydreaming to another level. Maybe he will wait for her by the shore…

  11. Great voice, I liked the tone and the assured confidence of our Mermaid. Loved it.

  12. Beautiful writing. and very imaginative. Now please write us a merman story. 😉
