Road Trip (Friday Fictioneers)

PHOTO PROMPT © J Hardy Carroll

Ah, road trip. This planet is one that has not levelled up. Stuck in repeat. Doomed to failure. They cancelled schools for all, only for the rich. Less trained in advanced work and over time, less in ordinary work. Fewer engineers to design parts to keep equipment and transport running. Dystopia or stupidity? Either way, it’s become a great planet to travel. So many of us are here now its surprising the locals haven’t spotted us. Though a tad warm for our tastes, the storms are glorious to watch. Trains are still running. We’re off to explore the city ruins.

  1. I’m sure there’s an object lesson there for the more advanced alien species. A moral tale to tell the kids

  2. A peak into the horrendous future we’re building for ourselves/ Well done.

  3. Stuck in repeat, eh? Maybe that’s a good thing… So… travel is free over here, eh? If you’re an alien that is

  4. Dear Laurie,

Ruined cities and running trains. At least something still works. Wonder where the aliens are from.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Thank you! One wonders if transport would be the last to fail or the first in a disaster scenario…

  5. What a fun story. I feel as if I were there, and how much fun it would be to “visit earth” from that point of view.

  6. This is great. Sadly, we’re on the way to this, with or without Aliens.

  7. The aliens will get to learn a lot of lessons. A cautionary tale indeed! Great take, Laurie
