Review: Anarchy Road – A Jake Caldwell Thriller by James L. Weaver

About the Book:
WHEN JUSTICE FAILS, SOMEONE HAS TO BALANCE THE SCALES.
When former mob leg-breaker turned PI, Jake Caldwell leaves a rock concert with his daughter, they fall victim to a bombing by a mad man with a depraved vision. Jake quickly discovers they weren’t the first victims and, if he doesn’t do something fast, they won’t be the last.
While his daughter Halle fights for her life, Jake and his best friend Sheriff Bear Parley follow the bloody clues and uncover an evil plot to pit the polarized sides of the nation against each other to shred the fragile remains of the social fabric holding the country together.
If Jake, Bear and their friends with the FBI fail, more people will die, and the country will plummet into chaos and a point of no return.
My Thoughts:
Jake is back! And so is Bear, along with the wide range of ensemble characters both good and bad as is usually found in a Jake Caldwell story – and there is the introduction of some memorable new characters too. James L. Weaver continues Jake’s violent adventures with another fantastic chapter in Anarchy Road.
What is Revenge? What is Vengeance? What is Justice? Anarchy Road explores all of these themes and raises many questions. What is Jake’s motivation, and is it justified? We get into Jake’s head in Anarchy Road in a way as never before as he attempts to explain the hunting of the terrorist behind several bombings (and after almost losing his daughter, Jake’s motivations for the hunt are murky at best – even to himself.)
The bad guys are deeply layered and provide a fascinating read as a foil to Jake’s actions and motivations. A fabulous book full of action, gritty violence and of course, Jake and Bear banter! Honestly who wouldn’t spend a whole book reading of these two in a car! This is book six in the series. If you haven’t read any of them yet, its a great series to invest time in.
