Make a wish (Friday Fictioneers)

PHOTO PROMPT © Ted Strutz

It is the greatest place on earth.

A place of dreams and fantasy, of battles for kingdoms and princesses (and princes and dragons). A place where you can sit in peace and read of mysteries and superheroes, vampires, monsters and unicorns.

It is also a place of magic.

Real magic.

I am The Librarian.

And I can find you what you need.

Pay close attention.

What you need.

Be careful what you wish for.

I have no need of a wand. My magic is in my fingertips, and in the power of my brain.

“How can I help you?”

This is the Friday Fictioneers Prompt

  1. I love the idea of librarian as superhero

  2. Odd, but they are places of both fantasy and concrete fact, of magic and of science. And the power of a librarian can’t be underestimated…

  3. Librarians are not to be taken lightly 😀

  4. Well done, Laurie. Magical indeed. As a child I only knew the stereotypical librarians. Now I find them to be much more varied. 🙂

  5. I love this, Laurie. Librarians are sorceresses of a sort!

  6. Very true, if only she could magic up my next adventure holiday.

  7. The wonderful power at the librarian’s fingertips – I’ll think of your story next time I’m in the library.

  8. Dear Laurie,

That’s a librarian’s super power…the world at her fingertips. Well done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  9. I remember as a kid a librarian raising her finger to her lips and going shhh! It really scared me!

    • Noooooooo ! I hated to be shushed. I wanted to tell everyone about what I was reading. I feel your pain !

  10. I like how you’ve structured this with the change after the long second paragraph. The slowing down of the pace there brings the librarian’s voice alive. Very good.

  11. Librarians are superheroes. Delightful story and how your told it!

  12. Great story. Now that is a librarian I’d love. Where I lived as a child, the librarian was haughty and determined not to allow kids to read ‘shallow’ books. Luckily there was a private little library close by with loads of ‘shallow’ SFF, animal stories and, gasp, romance books around. Guess where I went?

  13. Laurie I think you would make a great librarian. Any patron would be blessed to have you help them.
