Can’t go home (Friday Fictioneers)
I see the hut in the distance and breathe out a misty sigh of thanks. I can’t feel my toes, or my feet for that matter, still they manage to get me to the doorway. It takes far too long to break the door open and get a fire going in the hearth. Even longer before I feel my fingers again. I collapse next to the fire and scrub my dry eyes. It doesn’t seem real. I tripped through the doorway and found a new world. The sky, land, even the trees alien to me. How will I get home?

And getting back home is the next thing we think about after we’re safe, isn’t it?
Yes, exactly!
An all too human experience, even if the MC isn’t one!
Right?
Seems like a segment of a much bigger survival adventure. I’m intrigued!
Indeed… I think there could be more to this one.
For sure, I’d like to read it.
You can go back to a house, but find it is no longer home.
True
Oh dear. This almost feels like they have been going from one place to the next…
Yes and I don’t think any of them have been safe spaces for long
This sounds like a cold adventure to me. 🙂
I think it will certainly be an adventure !
This is a great fantasy of transporting through a door into another world. If only we could pick our destinations, unlike your character landing on a frozen mountain and seeking shelter in an Alpine Hut.
Yes I have a feeling she’d pick somewhere a lot warmer!
That doorway wasn’t what it seemed. At least there’s safety in there, wherever he is.
For the moment.
She has gone through the portal, from unsafe to safe. She will learn, now that she has survived. Good descriptions and storyline.
Oh very beautifully put!
Thanks, Laurie.
Dear Laurie,
You described the feelings quite well. There’s a lot of story between the lines. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, Rochelle!
