What’s Plan B? (Friday Fictioneers)

June 2, 2022

“I can’t fit in that.”

“Then you’ll have to climb down the outside.”

“Are you f-ing kidding me? I’ll fall.”

“For f-sakes.” He looked over the edge, doing what he could to hide the wobble in his lips. “Fine. Shite. I hate you.”

“I know, I know.” The younger man waved a hand around as sirens blared and two marked vehicles skidded to a halt. “They’re early.”

“Give me the dosh.”

The bulging bag was reluctantly handed over. The younger, thinner man slid down the stairwell.

“F-sakes. Leaving me here. Rat-bastard.” He climbed onto the rim. “Shite.”

  1. Honour among thieves, eh? A fun story, Laurie. I wasn’t able to detect the sci-fi component in this one

    • You are right, I’m a bit under the weather today. I missed the scifi 🥺
I think I’ll believe they stole something from an alien overlord! Haha

  2. A nice change, and an entertaining scene 👏

  3. Well done, Laurie. I love stories that end with ‘Ka-thud.’

    Hope you feel better soon.

  4. Nothing wrong with stepping outside the sci-fi – especially when the story is as good s this one. ‘Twould appear our thieves did not plan appropriately. Unless of course the younger man DID… No honour amid thieves!

  5. Nope, don’t like heights and I’m terrified of getting stuck in a metal tube. I would just have to go to jail. Ha ha You’ve written a few more books since I last visit FF. Good for you Laura.

  6. Snappy dialogue. I hope they get away.

  7. Oh no, poor guy. Great scene and dialogue. I don’t understand the other comments on SciFi though, you’ve written other genres in the past. You write what you see.

    • Yes exactly! LOL thank you!

And yes whatever comes to mind really. I do love a bit of space and fantasy and it’s my go to, but certainly other genres pop up from time to time. And I do like me some bad thieves !

  8. Oh oh. The pressure’s on. I can hear the panic rising in the dialogue. And I’m chuckling at the image of a chubby burglar trying to escape down that ladder. Very good. Love the ending.

  9. Dear Laurie,

I could sense the tension in this piece. Obviously they were where they shouldn’t have been doing what they shouldn’t have been doing.
