A tense negotiation (Friday Fictioneers)

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot
The setting sun through the window tries to yank my attention from the man opposite me. Part of me wants to look away from his intense gaze. I can’t let my guard down. Not even for a moment.
“You have it?”
I did. I’d also spotted the goons he’d scattered throughout the restaurant and the disrupting weapon holstered under his arm.
“Not with me. I need to know you have what I want first.”
The man bared his needle-like teeth. Movement from the back room caught my eye and frightened eyes begged for help.
I nodded. “Let’s go,” I said.

I’m sure she hasn’t walked into the lion’s den without preparation and backup. All will be well. Won’t it?
I’m sure you are right Neil, I might have to add to it next week !
Great set up, I hope she gets out of there with them! Bought my Kindle copy of Boss From Hell – added to my TBR list. Looking forward to it 🙂
Iain!! 😍😍😍 You are amazing thank you!
And then the disruptor went off. A dramatic story, Laurie.
Oooo perhaps, or perhaps she had a partner waiting in the wings?
Quite an intense scene! If it were first pages of a novel I would want to turn the page.
Thank you so much!!
Wow, great set up I want to know more! 🙂
Thank you!
Dear Laura,
Don’t know what the negotiation was about but the tension in this is tangible. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, Rochelle. Whatever it is, it means a lot to her.
I concur with everyone else, the tension is tangible. She seems very capable as well and knows what she’s doing. Great beginning to a much longer story!
Thank you so much!
Tense, great descriptions and with the frightened eyes you win our compassion immediately. Very effective!
Thank you so much!
I like to think the negotiation includes those frightened eyes… And that she is prepared for whatever shenanigans might happen!
You are exactly right!
🙂
She likes to live dangerously doesn’t she. She exudes confidence so I feel the trade will be successful and the hostage will live 🙂
I totally agree with you here. She has everything planned out.
