Hide your hearts (Friday Fictioneers)

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot
The signs popped up around the commercial celebration day and most dismissed it as a PR stunt. It let the message hide in plain sight. When the colours of the hearts changed word of mouth spread. “It’s a PR stunt!” “Probably selling something. Wine or chocolates maybe.” It was only after the day of celebration passed and new signs kept emerging that the first whispers of concern began. “Some one is in trouble.” “It’s a warning.” “Don’t be daft, someone’s love has probably died. It’s mourning.”
No one was prepared when the fae folk attacked. The hearts symbolled bloody death.

Very interesting story.
Thank you!
Wonderfully inventive, Laurie, as always
Thank you, Neil!
Didn’t know fairies could be so mean! Well done.
Oh yes, they can be awfully nasty
Well, I’m to be more careful in the woods in future!
It does sound like the sort of thing that would be a marketing campaign these days – those invaders learn quick!
Right? Maybe it’s happening right now?
The moral; beware of symbols you don’t understand – run away fast.
You never know the hidden meanings!
Oh we would totally miss those around the commercial stuff. They could start painting any time of year though – the shops are already full of Easter bunnies!
I think so too. It’s too early! Madness
A dark fantasy response to the prompt. Very very unique.
Thank you!
This is like the Mooninite invasion of Boston all over again.
Thank you so much! 🤩
Pretty smart of the Fae folk… unfortunate for all the victims.
Oh yes indeed. Clever. I wonder whats truly out there?
How can we ever know for sure?
I don’t think it was the fairies more than likely hobgoblins 🙂
Hmmmm could well be. The message is ambiguous 👀
Great build up…this is an idea that could be expanded on, warning signs that no one knows how to interpret.
Thank you!
Oh, this cannot be the start of something good. Dunna be messing with the fae folk. 🙂
Exactly Bill!
Ohhh bad fairies! This is an interesting story, well done.
Thank you!
Dear Laurie,
The Fae Folk knew what they were doing. Clueless humans.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Exactly!
Those sneaky little buggers!
E-Gads!
